Carl Hardt, founder of C&H Electric

Founded in 1973, Hardt Electric, Inc. has become one of the most reputable and reliable electrical contractors in Chicago. With roots stretching back to the 1930s, Hardt Electric continues to offer the same superior service as its forefather, Carl Hardt, founder of C&H Electric.

In the 1920s, Carl Hardt started winding motors for Wagner Motors. After working at Wagner Motors for several years, Carl decided to start his own business repairing electrical motors. In 1936, C&H Electric was born.

Throughout the years, the company established an exceptional reputation for as a reliable, honest and trustworthy contractor.

By the 1960s, Carl’s sons, Richard, Bill and David had joined the company.

In 1973, Carl turned the company over to his sons. It soon became apparent that Bill and David wanted to take C&H in a different direction than their brother and the three agreed to an amicable split.

Shortly thereafter, Hardt Electric was born. Initially, they employed six electricians and one part-time secretary. Now the company employs 50 electricians, five division managers and a purchasing agent, as well as administrative staff. The company has grown significantly and serves the remodeling, manufacturing and residential industries.

Following their father’s example, Bill and David have created Hardt Electric as a quality contractor that treats customers like family....providing dependable service at a competitive price.
